Benefits of Certification
Independent testing is the most acknowledged and accepted format for validating knowledge, skills and proficiency. And it becomes especially important whenever a dentist chooses to limit his or her practice to specific and complex, yet highly rewarding, areas of dentistry such as Craniofacial Pain and temporomandibular disorders (TMD).
Numerous studies have shown that board-certified doctors provide higher quality care and achieve better treatment outcomes for their patients than doctors who are not board certified. The ABCP Craniofacial Pain credentialing program is increasingly being recognized as the "gold standard" for dentists who are focusing all, or a portion, of their in this area of dentistry.
Participation in the ABCP credentialing assures patients that the dentists who are managing their care have achieved a level of excellence. Maintenance of Certification requirements further underscore that knowledge and skills demonstrated at the time of certification must continuously be refreshed and updated, and that all Diplomates must engage in lifelong learning if they are to continue to be recognized as experts.
The ABCP awarded its first Diplomate certificates in 1995. We are proud of the pioneering work the dentists who earned this credential have done to elevate the professional standards of care for patients. Today, we encourage all dentists who engage in the treatment of Craniofacial Pain and TMD to consider participating in the ABCP credentialing process. Successful completion will provide the clinician with the following:
- Documentation of clinical and academic competence in the assessment, diagnosis and management of TMD, Craniofacial Pain and its related disorders.
- Enhanced standing among colleagues in the dental and medical communities, as well as insurance company administrators, as a provider of TMD and Craniofacial Pain services.
- Extraordinary personal satisfaction and achievement, including recognition of the dentist's ability and commitment to implementing educational and professional standards for high quality practice.
Convocation and Awards Ceremony
You may not use the designation "Diplomate, American Board of Craniofacial Pain" until your credential is officially conferred upon you by the respective board.
Credentials will be conferred upon dentists who have fulfilled all requirements since our last examination period at our annual Convocation & Awards Ceremony. It is held each summer in conjunction with the American Academy of Craniofacial Pain International Clinical Symposium, which takes place during the last weekend in July or the first weekend in August.
The Executive Office will notify you of the specific date/time of the awards ceremony when the information becomes available. We look forward to your participation.
